May 31, 2013 Delaware City Anchorage

At the end of the C&D canal is a designated anchorage.  Its partially behind a breakwater so there is some shelter from Southerly swells.  We're the only boat here at the moment.  Went through the Canal this morning on flood tide which propelled us at almost 10mph, well beyond the normal 6-7 we usually manage.   So we arrived early.  Around noon.  Cocktails don't happen until 5pm.  What to do, what to do...

We are heading to Cape May tomorrow morning at sunrise.  We'll see how well certain crew members handle that... :-)

May 30, 2013 Veazy Cove (really Fords Landing)

Anchored at a place called Veazy Cove, or more appropriately Fords Landing since we really aren't in the cove.  The cove is reported to be too shallow and since the weather isn't bad we'll be fine here.  The Landing anchorage is at the mouth of the Bohemia River near the C&D Canal which we have to traverse tomorrow.  We'll end up in the Delaware River.    The Lat/Long label near the bottom is where we are now, and the one up to the right indicates the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.  Short hop for us tomorrow to get in the canal.

A zoomed out view of our current location.  Lots of shipping up here especially near Baltimore.  There were ships anchored as far down as Annapolis.

Cleo is still missed although the shock is beginning to wear off.  But I still got up at 6am out of habit of getting her up for her morning constitutional.

May 29 2013 Annapolis

Anchored here in Annapolis near the Naval Academy.   Sad day. Cleo, our little dog passed away this afternoon.

May 28 2013 anchored in Back Creek, Solomons Maryland

We anchored here in Back Creek in Solomons Maryland.  Big yachting center with many boat yards and marina's.  Severe thunderstorms are about to roll through so its going to be an adventuresome night.

For you more exacting types, here's where we are in more detail.

Coinjock,NC to Norfolk,VA   Click this link for a little more detail on the Coinjock to Norfolk segment of the journey.  Yes, that means I actually updated the real blog page!  Go figure...

May 27 2013. Little Bay anchorage near the Rappahonneck River

Anchored here about 4pm after leaving Waterside Marina in Norfolk at the ungodly hour of 6:38am.   Kind of a tricky entrance but very nice place with that great beach and wind protection from the south.  Only three other boats in here.  Planning on running up to Mill Creek in the Solomons tomorrow and then on to Annapolis.

Curious about what it looks like.  Here you go.

May 21 - May 24 2013 Norfolk,VA

We are anchored off Hospital Point on Tuesday May 21.  We're then moving over to the Waterside Marina Wednesday through Friday.  The two Lat/Long markers indicate the anchorage and the marina.    We are planning to head up the Chesapeake on Monday and  to Delaware by the following week.

Here's the anchorage, only 5 other boats and us.  When one of the big ships (and there were 3 last night) come in to the port, the wakes they leave really bounce us around.

Today (Wednesday) we are tied up at Waterside marina, right in downtown Norfolk and 2 blocks from USS Wisconsin. And yes, we're touring the Wisconsin and doing some boat maintenance and cleaning.   The marina is sort of a downtown mall type place with a Hooters and few other retail establishments.  We'll be here through the weekend to avoid some weather coming in over the next few days.

Across from us is the Navy ship yard with a number of vessels undergoing work.

May 20 2013 Coinjock Marina North Carolina

No anchorages within range so we had to do the marina route today. Coinjock.  Not much here but a restaurant with superb Prime Rib.  And since we are anyway .....

As you can see there isn't much here.  Very competent and nice folks with a surprisingly well stocked marine store.

Having received several complaints of "only maps and no pictures to prove where you are ..." I'll try and add visual evidence of our current location.  Like this one at Coinjock Marina of  Mary walking back to the boat with left over prime rib.

May 19, 2013 Alligator Creek Anchorage

Anchored here in the Alligator Creek after traversing the 23 mile Alligator and Pungo River Canal.  The canal is basically a long and straight 23 mile ditch.  Not much civilization around, just swamp. Did I mention boring?  You can see the canal .. its that long diagonal blue line ending about where we anchored.

May 18 2013 Lower Spring Creek, NC

Anchored here in Lower Spring Creek which is near Pamlico Sound.  The Lat/Long box is showing where we're located.  We skipped over Campbells Creek.  Too many crab pots.  THis is very near Palmico Sound.

The nautical chart of where we are.

May 17, 2013 Shackleford Island near Beaufort,NC

We are currently anchored here at the beach of this island which is a national park.  Wild horses on the beach too!  Took the dinghy 2 miles to Beaufort for ice cream.  On the journey here we went aground, helped another sailboat who went aground, miss-read a chart and "almost" got lost.  But we survived.

May 16, 2013 Swansboro North Carolina

We are anchored adjacent to Caspers Marina ( a great place with cheap fuel) in Swansboro,NC.  A bit windy here but good holding and a convenient place to head to Beaufort, NC tomorrow.

We're getting closer to Virginia, mile, by plodding mile.

May 14-15 2013 Wrightsville Beach

Made here to Wrightsville Beach  North Carolina from Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach.  69 miles of driving a boat through a narrow ditch.

We anchored here in the middle of the city.  Pretty neat!  Tomorrow I fix the broken water maker and change the oil in the engine while we're here. Planning on leaving Thursday morning for somewhere north of here.

May 12-13, 2013 Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach

We are currently tied up here on the long dock at Barefoot Landing which borders a large entertainment and shopping complex.  Cheap rates and easy docking.  The Lat/Long box shows where we are tied up.

And for the more map oriented of you ...

May 11, 2013 Enterprise Landing anchorage

Add caption
We're currently anchored here (the Lat/Long box) in Enterprise Landing along the ICW near Bucksport, SC south of Myrtle Beach.  Anchorage had a few eagles nest.  If the weather gets bad we'll just hunker down here for two nights.  Then on towards myrtle Beach and traversing the infamous RockPile cut.

And the inside route along the ICW if anyone is interested.

May 10, 2013 Winyah Bay near Georgetown

We're currently anchored here in Winyah Bay which is  very near Gerogetown.  Its rather desolate.  Had to take the Cadillac (dinghy) down to ferry Cleo a mile and half for her daily constitutional.  We'll stay here one night and move up the ICW to Enterprize Landing which hopefully will be a good place top hole up for the expected storms tomorrow night.

We took the ocean from the Stono River near Charleston to Winyah Bay.  Here's the route (its the hard-to-see black line)

May 9, 2013 Stono River Anchorage

We're currently anchored in the Stono River very near Charleston, SC.  We're planning on heading to Southport ,NC tomorrow and tomorrow night on the ocean if the weather holds.  Otherwise we'll head for Georgetown.

Here is the route we took from Morgan River to Stono River Anchorage.

May 8, 2013 Morgan River,SC

We are currently on the Morgan River anchored by Morgan Island which hosts a Federal Project which translates to no shore access.  Cleo is struggling with the pee pad idea.  Planning on taking either the ocean to Gerogetown (116mi) or continuing on the ICW up to Charleston and anchoring in the Stono River tomorrow.

Ignore the "A".  We are anchored where the Latitude and Longitude box is showing us.

Our route here from Hilton Head

Just to give some perspective as to our location on Hilton Head.

For the more curious, here is the route we took getting here from Turner Creek
